Trying to get pregnant
Couples often plan to have children after they get married. If they begin to have problems with getting a pregnancy started, pressure begins to build. This is magnified by in-laws who are pushing to have grandchildren. This can cause conflict between family members that can be difficult to heal.
When parents are not aware of the struggle, the hurt can be multiplied. Open communication is a key. Let the potential grandparents know that the pressure needs to stop. Tell them your feelings and timeframe for starting a family. Don't wait until there is a divide in the relationship and resentment is at a boiling point. Let them know that there could be consequences if the nagging does not stop. It may mean spending less time with them.
Parents usually have good intentions. Do not be too harsh or legalistic. Also, if children don't seem to be on the horizon, don't allow shame or guilt to being you down. You can be a valuable compliment to your parents and other family members just as you are.
Early Pregnancy Symptoms
Most parents want to know as soon as possible whether a pregnancy has occuried. They want to take the necessary precautions to ensure a healthy baby. Life complications will need to be cleared aside to allow focus on this new life.
There are several very early pregnancy symptoms that may indicate pregnancy even before taking a pregnancy test. If you are sexually active and are expecting pregnancy, the following early pregnancy signs are worth noting:
- About 6-12 days after conception, the embryo implants itself into the uterine wall. Some women will experience spotting.
- A delayed or missed menstruation is the most common pregnancy symptom.
- Swollen or tender breasts which may begin as early as 1-2 weeks after conception.
- Being more tired than usual can start as early as the first week after conception.
- Nausea or Morning Sickness will often show up between 2-8 weeks after conception.
- Backaches and Headaches
- Freguent Urination.
- Food Cravings
Be careful with these symptoms. They may also be signs of other problems. They are just possible first symptoms of pregnacy and that you should test for pregnancy and check with your doctor.

Successful pregnancy
There are many details to think about and prepare for. It can be all consuming. Worrying about an unknown future is expected.
What should I eat? Will the baby be healthy? How will our lives be impacted? Are we ready for this extra burden? These questions are good, but the anxiety during pregnancy may be doing more unnecessary harm.
If the anxiety is left unchecked, there could be issues that impact the new life. Chronic stress can boost the odds of a preterm labor or of delivering a low-birthweight baby. It is time to find a better way.
Share your concerns
Letting others know about your fears can alleviate some of the pressure just by openning up. You can also find out what their concerns are and work together to find solutions. Often times husband and wife have future issues and adjustments that can be better planned out. This can bring a sense of peace and build a comforting sense of teamwork.
Talk also with friends or other family members who have experience with pregnancy and birth issues. Mothers who have been through the experience can calm your fears and give you direction. They have been through what you are experiencing.
If you think there are major issues concerning your baby's health, share your concerns with your caregiver or doctor. If anxiety is still getting the better of you, don't hesitate to use professional counseling.
What you can do for yourself
You can take medication for anxiety, but this is not a good plan during pregnancy. Here is a list of simple things that can help:
- Look at what causes stress in your life. Find ways to change your routines so that you can reduce contact with these areas.
- Eat foods that will protect you from stress. Fruits and vegetables are great for this.
- Schedule in plenty of sleep and exercise. Walking may be the best.
- Spend time doing relaxing or recreational activities.
- Stay away from too much electronic stimulation including television and computers.
